Anniversary Programs Take Shape For 2013

Summer fields at Gettysburg National Military Park

Many exciting events and programs are being planned to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address in 2013. 

This is an early look at the current slate of Gettysburg National Military Park events

Please note that all information is subject to change.    

v January, February, March – A winter lecture series on the War in 1863 presented by Gettysburg National Military Park Rangers;

v Throughout 2013 – A special exhibit, “Treasures of the Civil War,” to be co-sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation;

v April through October – Civil War living history weekends on the Gettysburg battlefield;

v March 2013 – Gettysburg Seminar to be co-sponsored by Gettysburg College and the Gettysburg Foundation;

v June 2013 – Civil War 150th Brass Band event;

v June 21 – 25, 2013 – Co-sponsorship by the park of the 2013 Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College;

v June 28, 29, and 30 – Sacred Trust Lecture Series and Book Signing events by the park and the Gettysburg Foundation;

v June 30 – “A New Birth of Freedom,” Commemorative Ceremony –  a signature Gettysburg National Military Park event co-sponsored by Gettysburg College and the Gettysburg Foundation;

v July 1, 2, and 3 – 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg – Special Ranger Programs;

v August 2013 – Civil War Music Muster – special 150th battle anniversary program;

v September 18 – 22 – Special events associated with the 2013 Congressional Medal of Honor Convention;

v October 2013 – Gettysburg Seminar to be co-sponsored by Gettysburg College and the Gettysburg Foundation;

v November 16, 2013 – Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremonies;

v November 16, 2013 – The  Remembrance Day Illumination in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery with the Gettysburg Foundation;

v November 19, 2013 – Dedication Day – 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery;

v November 19, 2013 – Graveside Salute to the U.S. Colored Troops at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery.

In unison with other National Park Service sites, Gettysburg National Military Park’s 150th anniversary events and programs will commemorate defining events in our nation’s history and their legacy in the continuing fight for civil rights.

    Please change the dates of the Remembrance Day parade and illumination to Nov. 23. Did you know that the date was changed?
